As part of the Middle School Jewish Family Life Program, students in Grades 6, 7, and 8, are responsible to perform a certain number of community service hours over the course of the school year. Teva Teva, at Camp Isabella Freedman, is a unique environmental camp experience, where Judaic Studies and appreciation, as well as heightened awareness of the environment, are intertwined into a memorable four-day experience. This has traditionally been a time of bonding for the students, who learn the value of teamwork and cooperation through their daily activities.
Grade 6 and 7
Washington / Baltimore The Grades 6 & 7 year-end trip alternates between Washington and Baltimore. Some of the highlights of this 3 day/2 night trip are visits to the:
National Aquarium in Baltimore
Maryland Science Center
Tour of National Memorials: Vietnam, Korean, Lincoln, Washington Monument
Tour the Capitol Building
Holocaust Museum, Air & Space Museum
Oriole’s Game/Tour of Camden Yards
Grade 6, 7, and 8
Hersey Park Middle School students go on a field trip to Hershey Park for a special private opening for Sukkot. Jewish schools and groups converge upon the park for a day of fun and laughter, while celebrating the joyous holiday of Sukkot. The park builds a huge sukkah offering the visitors the opportunity to fulfill the mitzvah of leyeshev basukkah (the blessing for eating in the sukkah). The students end the day with a tour of the Hershey factory.
Grade 8
Israel The spring trip to Israel for our 8th grade students is the culmination of their learning experience here at Solomon Schechter – they will have the first hand opportunity to practice conversational Hebrew, to visit historic sites, and to embrace Israeli culture.
